“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Acts 4:29-31

The first Apostles of Christ were ordinary people, just like you and me. Yet they accomplished much for God’s Kingdom. Read the early chapters of Acts and see the unity of the believers, the miracles God performed through them, and the multitudes that came to believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord because of the witness of these faithful few. (The word “apostle” means “sent one” – a messenger.)

Why don’t Christians look more like this today? Has anything really changed? What would it take for believers in Christ today to “speak (God’s) word with great boldness” and to “heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of (God’s) holy servant Jesus”? Peter preached several powerful sermons and raised someone from the dead. Philip led an Ethiopian man to the Lord. Demonic spirits were cast out of people. Thousands of people were saved. Not by the power of these men, but by the power of Christ working through them. They were willing to humble themselves, pray and surrender their will to the will of the Father. And God performed great miracles through them.

It all started with the above prayer and a heart willing to do whatever God desired. Are we willing to pray like this? Are we ready for God’s response?

Pray that God might help you to be just a little more bold, and have the courage to do that which He has called and equipped you to do (and don’t be surprised if you feel a little “shaking”).
